Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) Information

New VDRs: Visit the Hays County Elections Office in San Marcos during normal business hours (no appointment necessary) to take the VDR exam. The VDR guide is provided and the exam is open-note. Once you pass the exam, we will issue you a Hays County VDR certificate and provide you with VDR voter registration applications.

Reciprocal VDRs: Send or bring a copy of your current (i.e. non-expired) VDR certificate issued by another county in Texas, and visit our office to be appointed as a Hays County VDR. It is not necessary to retake the exam.
