Hays County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division

    Overview

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division consists of four shifts, each commanded by a lieutenant. Shifts also include a sergeant and two corporals. The patrol division’s primary responsibility is responding to calls for service anywhere within the 693.5 square miles that encompasses Hays County.

The cities of San Marcos, Kyle, and Buda, along with Texas State University (TXST), operate their own police departments and are responsible for calls for service within their respective jurisdictions. However, deputies commissioned with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office have county-wide jurisdiction and are called to assist municipal police departments and the TXST university police in some cases. Deputies also enforce state and local criminal laws and assist other agencies where needed.
