SAN MARCOS, Texas – Hays County Criminal District Attorney Kelly Higgins announced today that a Hays County jury convicted 30-year-old Lapear Willrich of Capital Murder last week after a trial that lasted almost two weeks. District Judge Sherre Tibbe sentenced Willrich to life in prison without the possibility of parole at the conclusion of the trial.
Willrich was the second defendant to be convicted of capital murder in the case that stemmed from a home invasion robbery at the Village on Telluride apartments in San Marcos on June 5, 2019. During the crime, 23-year-old DeMarcus Trey Allen had been asleep in the living room and was shot and killed. The crime was captured on a home video surveillance system. San Marcos Police detectives were able to connect Willrich and his codefendant to the crime through their investigation.
Willrich’s codefendant, 28-year-old Jon Jervis, was convicted and sentenced to life without parole in 2022.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Katie Arnold and Abigail Whitaker.
