HR - Employee Benefits

    Eligible employees of Hays County are provided a wide range of benefits. Several of the programs are available to all employees as prescribed by law. Such programs include Social Security, Medicare and Workers’ Compensation. Eligibility for other benefits is dependent upon the regular number of hours an employee is expected to work each week.

    Supplemental Insurance

    Aflac - Offers supplemental insurance for individuals and family members; Accident, Cancer, Hospital, Critical Illness & Short-Term Disability. 

    MetLife – Hays County provides a basic life insurance policy in the amount of $25,000 to all eligible employees under the age of 65. Employees 65-70 are provided $16,250. Employees above 70 years old are provided $12,500. Also available at no cost to the employee, with the employer-paid basic life, are several additional benefits: Will/Estate Planning, Funeral Planning, Grief Counseling.

    Texas Republic Life – Whole Life Insurance


    Retirement Accounts

    Texas Counties and District Retirement System - Hays County employees contribute 7% of their pre-taxed gross wages into this Defined Benefit Pension Plan. Employees are vested at 8 years of service and the county contributes $2.25 for every employee dollar contributed. The county match is available upon an employee's retirement and drawing of a monthly annunity.

    Corebridge Financial - A 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan; this is an opportunity to take advantage of tax-deferred income for retirement. 


    Additional Programs

    Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Hays County offers eligible employees this program throught Deer Oaks EAP, which provides confidential support, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

    Quit For Life - This program provides information regarding tobacco cessation methods and related well-being support.

    Real Appeal - A weight management program that includes a mobile app and continuous support with coaches.

    Livongo by Teledoc Health - Offers diabetes and hypertension management program that integrates virtual health and personalized and dedicated coaches.

    Tx ACES - A clinical support program that provides market leading chronic condition management solutions.

    OnePass - Gym access program, in person or digital fitness partners, member pays the monthly fee, no implementation or monthly fee for the county.
